Therapy With Jessica Luiz

How I Can Help

Many of my clients come to me for help with various forms of anxiety and depression, while others are feeling stuck and want to make changes personally and/or professionally. My more unique specialties include treating prenatal and postpartum distress (anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts), OCD, and addiction. As your therapist, I will work with you to gain insight into your internal processes, learn new skills, and make lasting changes towards a more vibrant, fulfilling life.

Ultimately, I offer you a safe place to be heard, validated, supported, and understood.

What To Expect

I'm a licensed psychologist (PSY26902) with a private practice in Oakland specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy, which is an evidenced-based practice that creates movement towards achieving your goals. For more information on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) visit the Mayo Clinic.

My approach to therapy is practical and positive expressed through genuine honesty, active collaboration, and a little bit of humor. For some clients, this means helping to set achievable goals and recognizing their strengths, but it always means meeting them where they are at emotionally, mentally, and physically.

I believe in looking at the whole being and all aspects of your life, including relationships, work, and health. I perceive struggles, pain, and imperfection as opportunities to learn and grow. As such, we will work together to apply your coping skills and personal strengths while building flexibility to cultivate the life that you want!

About You

Every person is different, coming from various life experiences and perspectives making therapy an individualized process of growth and self-understanding. I find that individuals who come with an honest curiosity and ability to tolerate uncomfortable moments of greater self-awareness to have lasting effects.

I work best with adults who are:

  • Willing to build a trusting relationship where therapist and client can be open to feedback from one another
  • Motivated to work in and out of session, willing to try new things, and can look more in depth at their difficulties
  • Come with the understanding that therapy is an ongoing process where you can find the space to explore underlying thoughts and behavioral patterns negatively affecting your life

Feel free to call or e-mail me with questions or concerns. I look forward to connecting with you!
