Meet Dr. Jessica Luiz: ACT Therapist & Clinical Psychologist
Hi, I’m Jessica Luiz, a first generation Filipina American cisgender woman (she/her). I am a licensed clinical psychologist trained in Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT). These methods effectively treat trauma, anxiety, and depression while helping to change patterns.
Clinically, I am informed by relational, cultural, transdiagnostic foundations, specifically ACT, CBT, and multicultural orientations (MCO). Through a warm, strength-based approach I seek to create a therapeutic relationship that encourages vulnerability, insight and skill building, courageous leaps, and an overall learning framework.
I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis. I received my master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University In San Francisco.
Over the course of my studies and career, I have worked in a variety of settings including inpatient medical settings, county hospitals, mobile crisis units, residential substance use treatment centers, community mental health centers, Veterans Affairs medical centers, and my own private practice.
I have also been an educator at the Wright Institute and an associate director at the Wright Institute Berkeley CBT Clinic. In both roles I taught and supervised clinical work of doctoral students, improved program development, and provided consultation for all staff and students on DEI issues. I am now dedicating my efforts to my clients in private practice and my own conscious maintenance of relationships, hobbies, and health.
Being bicoastal enables me to enjoy the advantages of both worlds—caring for my aging parents while also having access to a wide range of opportunities. I enjoy reading mysteries when I’m not devouring psychological material and love to cook, hike, and find time to play. I adore spending quality time with loved ones, expanding my worldview through cultural experiences and travel, and never miss an opportunity to eat!
